Become an Intern

In addition to our volunteer opportunities, we offer a student internship program for college credit. This is an unpaid position for individuals interested in social service, victim advocacy or nonprofit work. It offers valuable experience in helping people through crisis so that they can look forward to a safer, more hopeful future. If you’d like to to make a difference and see your hard work improve the lives of others, we hope you choose to participate in our internship program.

We appreciate all the extraordinary talents of our interns and have several programs in which you can use and grow your skill set. The hours required for each position vary, but we will work with your schedule.

The following are examples of internship positions:

Legal Advocacy Program Intern
Assists clients with completing legal documents for Temporary Protective Orders (TPOs) and supporting the overall function of the TPO office (seeking Criminal Justice majors). This position requires some on-call availability.

Latino Outreach Program Intern
Works with Spanish-speaking clients (conducting intakes, helping work case plans, ongoing support, etc.), helping lead Spanish support groups on Wednesday nights and assisting with various outreach events (must be fluent in Spanish and English). This position requires some on-call availability.

Elder Abuse Program Intern
Works with victims of sexual assault and domestic violence who are age 50 and older, acting as a liaison between victims and service. This position requires some on-call availability.

Victim Services Program Intern
Assists clients by providing outreach, following up with clients to explain services and acting as a liaison between victims and various service providers. This position requires some on-call availability.

SANE Program Intern
Supporting victims of sexual assault during forensic medical exams, making follow up calls to victims and assisting our Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner Coordinator with compiling data and creating reports (seeking health-related majors). This position requires some on-call availability.

Housing Program Intern
Supports the Transitional Housing program, which includes planning, implementing, evaluating, case management and positive progression of clients.

Counseling Program Intern
Works with children and adults that have been victims of physical, mental or emotional abuse (seeking graduate-level Counseling, Psychology, or related majors).

Shelter Program Intern
Provides case management support to clients in the domestic violence shelter, helps meet client needs in the shelter and helps to answer the 24-hour crisis hotline.

Development Intern
Assist the development team with fundraising events, marketing, special campaigns, and other duties related to fund development.
