Client Stories

Katina’s Story

Katina was in an abusive relationship, trying to survive and keep her three children safe. Her abuser had taken over her apartment and would not leave. After having to call the police more than 20 times, she was feeling discouraged and alone. Finally, she found LiveSafe Resources and got help to receive a Temporary Protective Order and rental assistance for a new apartment.

“By the time I came here I was so broken, and you guys helped turn all that around. I needed LiveSafe because I needed to get out of
that apartment.”

Katina met with her case manager monthly, attended support groups, saved money, went back to school, and wrote two books. Her children’s book recently won “Best Children’s Book” from Story Monster!

“’Learning to Love Dark Skinned Mewas inspired by my bullying. I was being bullied severely because I was dark skinned.
Hopefully my book can be a healing mechanism to children.”

We are so proud of what Katina has accomplished and cannot wait to see what she does next!

“Without LiveSafe I wouldn’t have gone back to school to get my degree. I wouldn’t have done any of these things, and I’m just in such
a better position than I was three years ago. People like me need LiveSafe.”
